Cinco de Mayo (Fifth of May) celebrates Mexico’s victory over the Second French Empire at the Batlle of Puebla in 1862, led by General Ignacio Zaragoza.

In the United States, Cinco de Mayo has become associated with the celebration of Mexican-American culture, and has become an increasingly global celebration of Mexican culture, cuisine, and heritage.

Cinco de Mayo is often mistaken for Mexico Independence Day (Sept 16), which commemorates the Cry of Dolores in 1810, initiating the Mexican War of Independence from Spain.
